Weekly markets in Delhi to open from Monday, CM Arvind Kejriwal advises caution
Aug'8,021: ANNOUNCING reopening of all weekly markets from Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal advised caution and urged residents to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour.
Arvind Kejriwal said, "Weekly markets are being opened from Monday. These r poor people. Govt is quite concerned about their livelihoods. However, everyone's health and lives are also imp. I urge everyone to follow Covid appropriate behaviour after these mkts are opened.
The announcement comes a day after Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta, during a party protest, asked the chief minister to reopen weekly markets and compensate the traders associated with them.
Adesh Gupta had said that the BJP would agitate to reopen the weekly markets, and further pointed that even regular markets were opened and said that with the situation getting normal, "there should be a relief for these people as well".
The weekly markets in the national capital were closed after lockdown were imposed on April 19 after the city witnessed a surge in cases during the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
As the city started to unlock, the authorities had allowed one weekly market in each municipal zone to reopen, while ensuring that they adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour and follow official guidleines.

The livelihood of those associated with weekly markets has been heavily impacted due to the Covid-19 lockdown measures.
The chief minister said his government is concerned about the livelihood of those associated with weekly markets, but pointed out that health and life is important too.
He urged city residents to follow proper Covid-appropriate behaviour after these markets are opened.
