9 govt high schools upgraded to higher sec level

UKHRUL,Aug' 021: IN view of the pressing need to provide admission to students to higher studies in government schools; the State Government has upgraded nine government high schools to higher secondary schools with effect from academic session 2021-22.

Commissioner of Education (S), Government of Manipur M Harekrishna has issued an order to this effect on Friday.

The government high schools which have been upgraded to higher secondary level are Kasom Khullen High School, Praja High School, Khonghampat High School, Kamjong High School, Urup High School, Oinam Government Girls' High School, Siribon High School, Wabagai High School and New Tusom Frontier High School.

According to the order, there are 59 higher secondary schools as compared to 363 high schools in the State and the recently declared high school leaving certificate examination 2021 have registered a 100 percent pass percentage.

Due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic in the country, parents/guardians are still apprehensive of sending their wards to other states for higher studies and there is a felt need for establishment of more higher secondary schools in the state in order to provide admission avenue to the students who have cleared the HSLC examination 2021 conducted by BOSEM and its equivalent.  Besides, the State Government also strongly felt the need to upgrade some of the existing high schools to higher secondary level.

The government decided to upgrade the nine high schools to higher secondary level in view of the pressing need to provide admission to students to higher studies and to allay the fear and uncertainty among the students and their parents over inability to get admission in higher classes, it maintained.

The order further mentioned that services of senior most lecturers in the existing schools have been allowed to be utilized as Principal and Vice-Principal in the nine upgraded schools along with utilization of the services of qualified graduate teachers of the department wherever required in their respective grade pay and without any extra remuneration.
