UKHRUL, 7th Dec'23: For the first time of its kind in its history, the Ukhrul District Working Journalists’ Association (UDWJA) has introduced the long-awaited distinctive press jacket as official attire for its members.
The press jacket was formally launched by Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL) President Qr. SA Ramnganing to encourage local journalists to do their work unfailingly, during a simple function held at Hao Services Hotel, Winotang in Ukhrul town, on Thursday.
In his speech at the launching ceremony, Ramnganing acknowledged the value of the Press Jacket and said that press jacket is an essential item for journalists who work on the ground in unpredictable and challenging situations. He said that the role of journalists is crucial in helping the society achieve the social objectives of peace, harmony, growth, and development .
Ramnganing further said that journalists, in their duties, report on various problems facing the society, shed light on far-reaching issues, and promote awareness among the public, by helping citizens to stay up-to-date on latest events, initiatives, and policies. "Through their reports, journalists can also bring attention to urgent matters, which can lead to actionable solutions and positive changes," he said.
The TNWL President also commended the local journalists, stating that despite being small in number, they have been working with dedication in informing the public through honest and unbiased news.
The UDWJA president, Addie Chiphang, mentioned in his speech that the press jacket launch was a long-awaited moment for the association members. On behalf of UDWJA, he expressed immense gratitude to TNWL and in particular to its president, SA Ramnganing, for their continued support for the UDWJA and for sponsoring the production of the press jacket.
