MPCC  Ex- Prez joins BJP

Imphal, Aug'1,2021: POLITICAL heavy weight and former President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Govindas Konthoujam, who recently resigned from the State As- sembly today joins the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)in the presence of Senior BJP leader and in charge for Manipur Sambit Patra, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, BJP Manipur Pradesh President A Sharda Devi and others atthe BJP Party Headquarterin New Delhi. Union minister of state for educationand foreign affairs Dr RKR anjan Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba werea lso present. 

On Sunday morning, BJP spokesperson Anil Balunihad tweeted about Govindas joining the BJP, the tweet reads as “An eminent personality will join @BJP4India today (Sunday)01 August, 12 noon at BJP HQ, 6A DDU Marg, New Delhi.

CM N Biren Singh while addressing the press conference said, With the induction of 5 ministers from NE region, PM Narendra Modihas showed that he cares for the entire North East and promises to make the PM Modi government stronger.

Later on CM N Biren Singh tweeted, “Giving a major boost to bjp Manipur, former Manipur Congress President, Konthoujam joined Bharatiya Janata Party today. In presence of Sambitswaraj , Prabhari, BJPManipur and A ShardaDevi,President BJP Manipur.”Govindas Konthoujam who was the former President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee and six time MLA from Bishnupur AC had resigned from the post of President and primary membership of MPCC last week and also submitted his resignation from thestate assembly on July 28.

It may be mention that,the Congress party emerged as the single largest party in 2017 Assembly election with a total of 28 seats. However, the BJP winning just 21 seats formed the government with support from NPP,

NPF, TMC, LJP, a lone independent and a defected MLA from Congress party.With the resignation of Govindas Konthoujam from state assembly, the total legislature of Congress party is again decreased to 16.
